Breast Reduction surgery in Las Vegas
Stephen W. Gordon, M.D.

Breast reduction in Las Vegas is done by a variety of different ways. The most popular methods involve direct excision of breast skin and breast tissue. The other general concept of breast reduction involves liposuction of the breast fat to produce a smaller breast. These two concepts of breast reduction can be used alone or can be combined and used together to reduce a breast.

An important point to be made about breast reduction has to do with the magnitude of the breast reduction. In some instances the patient simply needs one breast to be made smaller to more closely match the other. In these cases very modest amounts of breast volume need to be removed and the scars can be very minimal. This situation is commonly encountered when women seek cosmetic improvement of the breast such as breast augmentation or breast lift procedures. When greater amounts of breast reduction are needed, then greater amounts of breast tissue must be removed and the scar from the surgery circles the areola and descends vertically downward from the 6 o’clock position on the areola border down to the fold area beneath the breast, and passes along the fold area for several inches. This scar shape is described as anchor shaped or inverted (upside down) "T".

The larger scale breast reductions are done for a variety of reasons. It helps to alleviate back and shoulder pain and because the breast is lifted as well as reduced, it helps get rid of the rash and irritation which occurs underneath the breast where the two wet sweaty surfaces constantly rub against each other. Breast reduction along with reduction of areola size and the lifting of the breast which occurs with reduction all make for an improved cosmetic appearance of the breast. Most of the time, nipple sensitivity will be improved because of breast reduction.

Whenever possible I like to use a combination approach to breast reduction which is designed to produce minimal scarring around the areola and vertically downward to the fold, and the shortest possible fold scar. I also like to use liposuction when indicated to sculpt the nicest shaped breast. I now use absorbable sutures, so none need to be removed. The surgery is done as an outpatient in my accredited surgery center, and general anesthesia is administered by a board certified anesthesiologist.
