Skin Care Services: BOTOX® Cosmetic (Botulinum Toxin)
BOTOX® Cosmetic (Botulinum Toxin) works by weakening the muscles of facial expressions which insert on the under surface of the facial skin. It was created originally to treat facial tics or spasms, but now is FDA approved to treat wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic was found to relieve facial wrinkles and neck banding when injected at these sites. This results in smoother and younger-looking skin around the injected areas.
Dr. Gordon is now utilizing BOTOX® Cosmetic to reduce wrinkles and relax muscles in specific facial areas such as vertical and horizontal forehead frown creases and crow’s-feet around the eyes. It can also be used to minimize wrinkles around the mouth & chin and reduce neck banding. This will provide a more youthful appearance without surgery.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected directly into the frown muscle or the wrinkle area. Within 24-72 hours the muscles will relax and the wrinkles and frown disappear. The frustrated, tired and angry look on the face will disappear and the patient will look younger with smoother skin.
It takes only a few minutes to inject BOTOX® Cosmetic and its effects last for few months (three to six months). The treatment has to be repeated as the wrinkles or frown lines will reappear.
There have been no reports of permanent damage caused by the injection of BOTOX® Cosmetic. Local bruising at the site of injection or slight drop of the eyelid are usually temporary side effects in some cases. In general, the use of BOTOX® Cosmetic has proved to be safe in the hands of the specialist.
Unlike collagen, there are no allergies associated with BOTOX® Cosmetic and, again, there are no permanent effects. The side effects, which most commonly involve bruising at the injection site, are minimal and temporary.
This is an excellent treatment for forehead lines, crow’s feet and frown lines. Please give us a call if you have any questions or would like more information on this amazing product.
